We asked Rob Tippett, Director at Solar South West Limited about their experience of achieving ISO 9001 accreditation.
Solar South West is a UK leader in the development, installation, operation and maintenance of commercial solar PV systems and battery energy storage solutions. The sector has had it’s challenges: the early incentive schemes saw the influx of large numbers of contractors. Many of them dropped out at the first change in tariffs or went bust. As a result, customers have struggled to identify those reputable suppliers who’ve built sustainable businesses. Solar South West identified ISO 9001:2015 as a vital measure of reputability and commitment to quality.
WCS supported us through the process of gaining ISO 9001:2015 quality management accreditation. Their first step was to take a close look at how we ran our business. They brought our team together to evaluate our core business processes. After documenting these in a jargon-free and visual style, they identified the additional steps we needed to take to meet the standard. We were anxious that there might be lots of additional paperwork. However WCS were able to identify ways we could use our existing business systems and cloud technology. This meant we were able to streamline data processing. As we became ready for assessment, WCS provided internal auditing services, and guided us through the final external audits.
The outcome of the process is that we’re more aware than ever of the need to continually improve the way we do things. As a result we’re better placed to meet our customers’ solar PV and battery storage needs. I’d thoroughly recommend WCS to any business who wish to achieve or maintain ISO 9001 accreditation.
