To investigate and identify the underlying reasons for under performance of one of the business units and identify solutions for increasing profits.
Solution
WCS reviewed the accounts, management and costing information, identifying the key problem area was in cost base and allocation of overheads. Ironically the ‘under-performing’ business unit was over absorbing overhead costs and was performing better than initially realised! WCS spent time improving the quality of management information, off the back of which a reduction in costs has been made, leading to increased profitability.
